May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I had my surgery in Monterrey , Mexico on Thursday. I flew in on that same day. They did my preop and wisked me off to surgery. I will tell you I hate surgery because I throw up but this was by far the best experience I ever had. The doctor is Dr. Raul Chapa. He and his wife are partneres in practice. They speak english well enough. The hospital was out of this world wonderful. I was so well taken care of. I have no pain only a little soreness when I move just right. I flew home today. I stayed the first night in their beautiful hospital and then Friday night and Saturday night I stayed in a hotel near the hospital. I pretty much slept all day Friday and a good deal of Saturday. I had a terrible headache but I came to Mexico with one and couldn't shake it. I finally woke up late Friday and it was gone. Get this- my doctor came to my hotel room to check on me everyday. I'm sticking to liquids and Dr. Chapa isn't as strict about the coffee thing and I had an iced coffee today with skim milk. It was awsome. Well enough babbling for now.

does that mean you'll get your fills through your belly button?

Yes, I will. My Dr also says that with weight loss it will be less noticeable too, since you naturally have a little pudge around the belly button even when thin. Sounded good to me. :)

Thanks METALBAND! I can't believe our week is here. Somehow, I

got so wrapped up in keeping up the calendar, that this week just

crept up on me. Even going for my pre-admission testing last week

didn't really get me nervous or excited. I've been so busy with work

that I guess I haven't had a minute to think about me! Probably a

good thing or I would be getting jittery! I haven't had surgery since

my tonsils were taken out 36 years ago!

Take care of yourself.

Cheers,

Margaret

Margaret,

Thanks for managing our MAY calendar.

Sending up a prayer for you...... but I know you will do great.

I am on day 6 Post-op and am constantly hungry..... liquids stage is very challenging. Need clear Soup recipes, any advice?

Some people make this sound so easy that i wasn;t prepared for the pain. I like to think I have a pretty high pain threshold (4 natural childbirths) but this hurts! I think all of you should be prepared to take 3-4 days to lay around following surgery. I know some of my pain is because I can't take the strong narcotics and the tylenol doesn't make that big of a dent in the pain. Just want all of you Monday banders to be prepared.

Thursday,17th, bandmates - How are you all doing? Do any of you have that 'something caught in my throat' discomfort? Is that from having a tube down your throat? mY PORT IS STILL VERY SORE! How about you? I really thought I would be in less pain by now. Wrong . . . .

I am so glad to hear someone else say this...I thought I was getting hungry too soon after surgery. I was banded the same day as you and I'll tell you, today has been rough as I have been hungry all day. My husband made pizza for himself and my daughter for dinner and I almost cried! I had to go upstairs as I couldn't stand to be around them watching them eat it. How silly is that? I'm so tired of liquids and I have a whole week more of it. I can't start mushies until 5/28 (can't wait!!):hungry:

Wenjea,

The Golf ball in the throat feeling is gone, still dealing with the tight chest issues. Still passing gas and trying to get down liquids. I just dont have that much hunger, even my head hunger is not there right now. I am sure they will both be back, so I will enjoy while I can. I am a little scared to drink more than a sip or two of Water. I dont want it ito hurt. I start Hard Liquids tomorrow, Cream of wheats and pudding. Pudding sounds good, but a little think to get down. I have had a few SF popsicles, there were good.

So far so good. I overdid it today at a birthday party. I knew better, but my DH is not the best at those type of events.

Glad the hear you are up and well. Keep in touch.

Wenjea & Eljmom-

Today is day 4 and my tummy actually growled. My hubby's food smelled good to me. The doctors office said if I started getting hungry before the 2 week class to call and we would talk about creamy Soups. I have done pretty much nothing but lay around and watch movies since being home. My hubby went to get the kids now, so tomorrow will be a different story. I still can't bend over and pick up anything off of the floor yet. A little sore in the tummy/incision area. No golfball in the throat though, I think the gas is almost all gone. I am sick of the Protein shakes! My mouth tastes yucky all the time! Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!

Nimblebean our day is coming up soon... 36 hours and counting... My husband is cooking chicken tonigt with rice and Beans and my stomach is agrowling... Is that head hunger or tummy hunger when your tummy actually growls.

I actually starting to get a little nervous with the pressure to wrap everything up at work tomorrow (which is a good thing as hopefully it will keep my mind off of Tuesday). Reading all the posts and hearing about PB scares me but I do understand it is part of the deal.

GOOD LUCK to everyone tomorrow! I look forward to reading your posts on how thing went for you when I get home on Wednesday. Also - I heard the belly button was good place for the port to be, also have been hearing about these new ports. I am going to ask the Dr. about this.

Regards -

Patty,

Thanks for the kinds words and good wishes.

How many days do you have to stay on liquids? I will have one week

of it, but am very lucky because I did not have to do a liquid prep.

In fact, no prep at all except a light meal tomorrow and nothing

after midnight.

Be easy on yourself, and keep me posted as to how it's going.

Good Luck to everyone going in tomorrow! You will do great! For those of you that are hungry, I found a Soup at Chili's that helped me! It is chicken Enchilada soup. Order a bowl of it, and then strain the meat out! After I was 10 days post-op I blended the meat up in it and that has helped me. You can go to Chilis.com and get the calorie info!

Happy Monday!

I actually starting to get a little nervous with the pressure to wrap everything up at work tomorrow (which is a good thing as hopefully it will keep my mind off of Tuesday). Reading all the posts and hearing about PB scares me but I do understand it is part of the deal.

ljuht, my bandmate!

Oh jeez, 36 hours! Well, I just said to Patty (Dutchgrl59), that I'm not

nervous. But, wow, 36 hours!!! When I see it like that I just feel as

though there are not enough hours to do what I need to!

Like you, I am going to work tomorrow. Tons to do there. But, my

mother is coming over after work to go with me to the hospital and stay

with me for a few days! And my apartment is so NOT in 'mother-

condition' if you know what I mean! She's great, and not a bit

judgmental, but her house is always lovely, nothing out of place, no

dust. I have two cats, an extremely busy life, and lately, no time to

keep up with the paper clutter. And you know what paper clutter's like..

can't just throw it out, have to look at everything! So, I'm trying to

clean up as best I can tonight!!! Yikes!

Tomorrow after work, I need to put all the plants I bought earlier in the

week into their pots. My doc doesn't let us lift over 15 lbs. or bend at

the waist for 4-6 weeks, so moving large ceramic pots all over my porch

is out! Thankfully, I have already taken care of my garden (looks lovely

if I do say so myself) as I knew it would be too late for planting by the

time I am given the all clear.

They won't need to give me anasthesia on Tuesday; I will be sound

asleep from exhaustion!

I'm in NJ; where are you? And do you have to stay in the hospital

overnight? I do.

When you feel up to it, let me know how you are doing.

Best,

Margaret

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
