Feeling the portal

Recommended Posts

After you are banded, I understand there is a portal placed in the groin area for filling the band. I don't mean to be graphic but is this ever a problem for any of you during the touchy-feely time when you are being intimate with your spouse?

Don't worry, its not placed in the groin area. It is placed just near the waist band. You can't feel it unless you really push on it or you lay down and feel for it. Julie

I've never heard of the port being placed in the groin area--mine is a little to the left of my belly button and a bit higher. I still have swelling around the port (I'm two weeks post-op) and can feel the port itself if I press on it. It's still tender but I can't imagine it's going to cause problems during intimacy as far as touching it or feeling it.

I'm with the other posters, never heard of one being placed near the groin. Mine is right below my ribcage, to the right. I can feel it if I press on that area, but otherwise I don't notice it at all.

This is where my doc places his too...... check with YOUR doc on what location he prefers.

At my pre-op appt. my dr. actually drew my incisions on my belly to show me where everything would be and where the port would be. He was careful to avoid my bra line and underwear line and my other scars from gall bladder and hysterectomy surgeries. It was a very informative visit. Good luck!

Groin...ouch. Getting fills must be a pretty personal experience!

You can discuss this with your doc to see if they offer any other options.

Mine is on my right near my ribs, under the bra line. I don't have any problems with it there.

I've heard all kinds of stories about which side and where exactly their doctor's like to put the port but I have not heard of the port going in the groin area. There's nothing wrong with this...I'm just saying I've not heard about this location being used before.

Mine's a few inches diagonally above my belly button, under my rib cage. I've never ever heard of it being put in the groin. That would make for some interesting fills, lol.

Mine sticks out now and is very very easy to feel and it does gross my DH out but then its not often that he rubs my tummy! The bits he wants to grab are the same as ever, just smaller.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
