Having a hard time getting support at home for WLS. I told my mom I was thinking about it, after going to an open orientation today. She isn't really happy about my choice. Thinking I should just "try harder" at losing the weight on my own.

I've been successful in the past at my own attempt but like most as soon as I ease up even a little I gain it back at a rapid weight.

I understand my moms concern. She's my mother and worried about complications as well as the idea of any surgery in its self would scare her. I'm a mother myself so I do not fault her for it. It's just hard to know I don't really have her support. At least not at this point. I know she will come around... Hoping so.

You have to do what is right for you.

Everyone is not going to support you or agree with your decisions, not just with WLS but with life in general.

You be your biggest cheerleader and supporter. Oh...and the fine people here offer support daily. :D

There's a point where we begin teaching our mothers a thing or two - and while we hope it's a loving and graceful part of the growing relationship - it ain't always so! TOo bad your mum didn't go to the orientation with you to see and hear those things which might have helped. The older generation often eneds to hear it from 'experts' instead of us to really believe it. Are there other close connections you can rely on for that support? Someone from church or work might be able to come and help post-op with you. I know you'd like it from her, but it might take longer for her to come around to it. Give her a bit of time - maybe she will.

I am experiencing the same thing. My mom is so not supportive. She's worried about complications and says I should lose the weight naturally. I'm done doing diets and failing. My hubby and sisters also don't have my back. I'm going to my psych and nut appointment tomorrow then I get a date. Insurance already approved and all tests are done. I had no 6 month requirements. Just wish I had someone to rely on for support. I'm terrified. I've got 2 kids that are my life. I'm doing this for them to have a mom they can be proud of. So I can care for them the way they should be cared for. I don't want them to remember me like this...too fat to play on the floor with them.

I could have wrote this myself. Family not against it but not supportive. They also believe that u should try harder on my own. Hubby seems to not care either way. I have 2 little kids and i don't want them to have the "fat" mom that can't do much.

We have each other. We got this!!!

Sometimes you just have to be selfish and do what best for you. In the end it's my body and my choice. I just can't live the rest of my life as a obese person. The way I see it I have just as much "risk" walking down the street. Any number if things could happen.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
