Hi, Banders! I'm being banded March 13. I was wondering if any of you have found any type of support group meetings in your area that you go to. My surgical center has one but it's only one day a month. I've driven to two other groups from other hospitals within an hour from my home, but those also are only monthly, and one of them was very discouraging (two married people who talked the whole time about how they learned to cheat their band -- I went twice to that one and it was the same pair both times). In a former life, I lost 140 pounds in OA, only to gain it back after getting married. While in OA, the meetings were a lifesaver and I could go to one any day of the week within an hour of my home. But my head is really not in the 12-step realm right now. I've thought of re-joining WW just for the meeting capability, but the ongoing cost could be an issue. It doesn't even have to be a WLS support group, just weight loss, and hopefully, free or cheap. Thoughts? (BTW, this online forum is wonderful, but getting out of the house to a group does help me.) Worst case scenario, I'll probably go back to WW. Thanks for the feedback!

Hello! Alex is working on creating face to face support groups in conjunction with this online forum. He put out a thread recently...you can search for it. Also..a few of us met with him recently to discuss this option and feedback online has been very positive.

I don't know the timeframe for this yet but just know that it is in the works.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
