Low BMI with no comorbidities, what do I do?

Recommended Posts

My BMI is 38 and my ins says my BMI has to be 40 with no comorbidities or 35 with comorbidities. Has anybody experienced this?

Yes, gain weight or wear ankle weights to your appointments.

Strap on a scuba divers weight belt under your clothes, with the added weight needed to reach 40 BMI. Also tell them your are an inch or two shorter than you are. If they measure...... slouch ! It's up to you, but I'm not kidding. To have generic requirements for everyone that don't take individual needs into consideration is stupid to begin with.

Take control of your own life and your own decisions and go self pay. Despite paying thousands of dollars for insurance for myself every year, they would not cover WLS. I saved my $$$ and had my VSG done in December. Not having to go through all the stupid insurance requirements made for a very relaxing and easy process.

I thought my BMI when I went to my consult was 38 also but when they took my actual height without shoes I found out I was really only 5'4 instead of the 5'6 I wrote down which pushed my BMI over 40. Who is your insurance through. Also when I went for my initial consult with the surgeon he ordered a sleep study and we found out I have mild sleep apnea which is all I needed to be approved. Good Luck.

Real talk, I had put a 10 lb weight plate in my Spanx. I was right at 35 bmi on my initial consultation. After completing my sleep study (insurance requirement) I found out I had sleep apnea. That increased my chance of being approved. I'm scheduled for 3.14. Good luck.

See how much you can make the scale go up by wearing heavy clothes, eating heavy food and drinking a lot of Water. If you do wanna stash some weights on you, be covert about it. Someone on another forum said something about having been checked for ankle weights.

It's similar to my insurance Blue Cross Blue Sheild. All you have to have is one comorbity with a BMI of 35+. It can be high cholesterol, sleep apnia, etc. if you have never been tested for these things, then your surgeon will order these tests for you. Good luck

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
