worst first month recovery

Recommended Posts

I'm a month out but it's been bad. Had nausea for a while got dehydrated . Headaches . Now I gag all day. Getting x rays done on thursday. Depressed. Unhappy. I've lost 40+ pounds. But I don't feel like myself. Anyone had the same ?

Yes Ms g, I did go through the same feelings physically and emotionally. For the first 4 months I doubted I made the right decision. It took awhile for me to start feeling better but eventually I did, then I realized I absolutely did do the right thing for my health. I don't regret one second of my VSG journey, it has made the person I am today.

Stay the course, it will get better and you will look back proud at what you have accomplished. This is why WLS patients always say that WLS is NOT the easy way out. It is really REALLY difficult... BUT WORTH IT!

:)

Thank you. I feel like I made a mistake and I just want to get better and feel better. How many months or years are you out ? At the Moment I'm dealing with strong head aches.

I am going on my 4th year post op. The headaches are probably low carbs/sugars and/or dehydration. Are you getting all your Water in? Even if you have to ration your fluids you must get them all in during this time. You're still healing and not eating very much at all, so you really aren't getting enough Water for your body to function properly.

8 Oz every hour, for 8 hours per day.

It does get better! Take little sips of Water all day. I gagged and now I no longer do. I had mine 2 1/2 months ago, and feel so much better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
