How much time do you need off work post surgery with the lap band? I have an office job at a computer.

I also have a sit down computer job. Fatigue is the major factor. I could've gone back to work by day 3 or 4 but I had the week scheduled off. I also have the ability of working from home. Good luck on your upcoming surgery!

I guess I would need a minimum of three post surgery days before I return to work. I am unfortunately not able to work from home

Is it paid time off? Then I would ask for at least a week. I took two, but I have a physical job. If you're not being paid and want to get back, then Monday would probably be ok.

I found sitting uncomfortable after surgeries. Your stomach is still sore, but as long as you can get up stand and walk around bit, you might be able to go back to work after a long weekend. But, please check with your medical team.Karen

This is a personal variable that is unpredictable from the other side of a keyboard.

My own recovery was fine; by Day 3 postOp I was gingerly carrying a couple pieces of fire wood.

I did a few 1/2 day light duty things at the office. It's nice to pamper yourself & not feel too hurried to return.

I went out on an extended road trip alone by about the second week IIRC.

Learning how to and what to eat, how to keep hydrated, etc, takes a LOT of research.

Use some of your postOp time hunting up those issues.\\

Cheers on your Journey.

My surgeon had me out for 17 days post op and I sit at a computer all day.... But it was more a matter of scheduling the follow up. However he requires 2 weeks... And my employer wouldn't let me come back until I was released by the surgeon... So it was a catch 22.

Well I had surgery last Wednesday, I planned on going back today. I wasn't quite up to it, it's more tht hernia repair then then the band. I had my doctor send a note releasing me for tomorrow. So we'll see how that goes. I have a sit down job as well. Hope all goes well for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
