When will this feeling stop...or will it?

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow will be 6 weeks post-op. I am happy with the weight I have lost (can't lie and say I wish it was more, but I don't think that will go away). I just can't seem to shake this feeling I have...anxious, slightly depressed. At times it is strong and others it seems to almost go away. I start thinking about things like not eating certain foods, extra skin, having to explain to my family (who is 3 hours away) where my weight went and I start to fall apart. I was not in denial about things before my sleeve. I addressed all of these things when making my decision and did not feel like I chose surgery hastily. I read that there could be emotional side-effects (for lack of a better word), but thought they would be different and would be long gone by now. I don't want to live the rest of my life ashamed of or regretting the decision I made.

Does anyone else feel this way? If you have, how did you get past it?

mood swings and depression are bound to happen as there are huge hormonal changes in our body. cheer up you will be fine.

I am also about six weeks post op and have had similar feelings. I think it's all a part of the process. I try to stay focused on the end game and remind myself that outside of all my concerns is being healthier and living a better life. I too am concerned about the extra skin I'll face as I loose the weight but it's a reality and the damage has been done. I keep myself focused on getting off all my medications and having more energy. There will be time enough in the future to deal with the rest.

By week 11, it will all be a dim and distant memory. Trust me.

Try not to focus on what you currently perceive as the negatives. It is the coursing hormones which are making you focus on these things.

When you feel your mind being dragged to those depths, do something to distract yourself. Displacement activity is a very good thing.

Don't worry, chick. You will soon be feeling like a swan :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
