How is everyone doing with weight loss progression and exercise? I'm barely exercising. I'm losing weight but I want to maximize this first few months and get my motivation in gear to start exercising.

I'm doing pretty good. I haven't weighed myself since my last doctor appointment, so I don't know how much more I have lost. I do know I have gone down two pant sizes. I have to wear belts for sure. I have been working out 3 days a week, but slacked off last week. Went to Zumba for a hour today and I was able to do the entire class without passing out or having a hard time breathing. That is huge for me! Lol. I really enjoyed it and wouldn't mind doing it. There are some foods I can tolerate, but still trying to find that balance.

How are you doing?

I have not been exercising and have been averaging 3lbs per week.

That said, I try to move more and walk a bit more daily.

Exercise is great to prevent the body from starvation mode and dozens of other reasons.

Whatever you will do make sure it is something you can do the rest of your life. Sustained change rather than quick fix being the goal....or at least that is my thought as to why I am not freeking out about exercise. I know I will not go back to exercising an hour daily - I just will not sustain it long-term (2+ years). If your goal is max weight loss then exercise your butt off, just don't be surprised if exercise causes more stalls and creates more hunger.

Beginning cardio. Off to the gym 4 times so far! One month out and down 27 or so lbs. Feeling like I should've lost more...but honestly couldn't have lost this much weight without pre-op diet & surgery. I know I could be making better food choices. Plan to exercise 3-5 days a week.

I started working out with a trainer a couple of weeks ago for strength training and have been trying to increase my cardio (not my favorite thing - but I know it is necessary). I just joined a 6 week program at a local gym called First Step which is designed for people just kind of getting back into exercise. They give you 2 days a week with a trainer for 1/2 hour - I am pretty excited about it. Also joined a program at work where you get points for every minute you exercise and then prizes are awarded for the top exercisers - hoping this will motivate me to exercise more.

27 pounds at 1 month is good. I hit a stall between weeks 3 and 6 where I lost 1/2 lb. during that whole time. Just lost 5 lbs this past week so I am hoping the stall is over. At 7 weeks I have lost 20 lbs -- but I lost quite a bit in the pre-op phase so I figure my body is adjusting.

Well on March 5th I will be one year out. I went from a size 18 to an 8 and lost 82 pounds. Feel wonderful. I started out with a slow walk gradually increasing speed and incline on the treadmill than added in 1 to 2 days of strength training with hand weights and a dvd. Today I worked myself up to running 3.5 miles outside! can't believe my body can do this. It is so rewarding.

Curious is this with in your local community? Sounds like a great incentive program.

Congrats on your exercise program too

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
