What are your expectations of having WLS, both short term and long term?

I expect to grow into a confidence that I've never had. I expect to appreciate the little changes. I expect to take a pic weekly. I expect to feel as if a.daily burden I've lived with is gone. I expect to be able to cross my legs and wear shorter skirts (not stank...lol). I expect to be a little more fashionable. I expect to LOVE myself in my skin

I expect numerous body parts stop hurting when in use and to start working properly without the added weight. I expect my jeans will last a lot longer now that my thighs will not try to escape the material on the inside lol. Good question!

It's tough to teach an ole dog new tricks.......my expectations from WLS is keeping the head in check. My mind has always won out with eating. Head hunger was the reason I ate so much so often. I want the sleeve's restriction to keep my head hunger in check. I know I will develop new habits and eat better food, but I also know the head will still want that cake and those Cookies. (and not just one). So I need that restriction to be there to remind me of the discomfort if I try to eat to excess.

Long term, I expect to be able to keep excess weight off, something I was never able to do before. I expect this tool to give me the edge in keeping a healthy lifestyle, eating right, and maintaining my weight. I know I have to do my part, too, but in the past it was never good enough and I always failed and regained. I expect WLS to be the difference.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
