AM I On the right track - 4 weeks post opt today

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I need some advice here. Today is my 4 weeks post opt. I lost 11 pounds on the pre-opt liquid diet and 20 more pounds post opt. However, last week I only lost 1 pound and I'm gettting worried. I didn't work out much b/c I was sick, but still. I have started exercising more and I shoot for 3-4 days a week. The scale is barely moving. I do feel hungry quite often (I didn't at first). I usually eat 5 small meals/snacks a day and I'm on phase 4, so the only meat I'm eating is seafood. The remainder of my diet is cut up turkey, natural applesauce, yogurt, mashed banana, Beans, mashed potatoes, green beans, etc. I'm following my instructions, but I'm not feeling as full as I used to, but I don't want to over eat. Sometimes I eat and then an hour later, I feel hungry again.

I don't see my doctor again until like 2 more months and I don't want to not be progressing as I should be.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Girrrrrl, your body just lost 31 lbs in less than a month. It's taking a little breather, trying to catch up with you. As long as you are doing what you are supposed to (and it sure sounds like it), then you'll be just fine.

This is the sage advice that the veterans gave me last week. I am 3 weeks post op and lost 11 on the pre-op and 11 immediately following and then have gone like 14 days holding steady.

I too have hit that 3 week stall. I have lost 32 lbs including preop and havent lost anything in a week or so. I try and just stay calm and focus on getting my Water in (which is my biggest challenge) I have also taken a sabbatical from the scale.

You have done amazing! Your body is adjusting so give it time. I don't weigh everyday. If I did, I would freak out! Steady weight loss is the best. Keep it up and your body will reward you!!

The dreaded stall. Check out Butterthebean's profile. He has a link in the signature line that describes why stalls happen.

I too only lost 1 pound when I hit my 4th week. my nutritionist told me to quit weighing every day or I was not going to experience the full joy of my efforts. She said I lost so much in a short time and my body is trying to hold on to what I got. She said ditch the scale or only weigh once in a while. Meantime keep doing what I'm supposed to and give it time. That was this past Friday. I am not weighing myself daily anymore and I feel as great mentally as I do physically now. Keep up the great work and you will see the rewards! Look how great you've done so far!!

you are on track for YOU... don't compare yourselves to others; it doesn't work that way... each of us is different on how we lose; continue to follow your program and you will be fine :)

I'm down 30 pounds since 2/4. I weighed myself everyday 2-3 times a days after surgery, but I 'm trying to do once a week because you do see fluctuation throughout the day.

I'm just 4 weeks and 1 day out. I was SW 247, and by week two I lost 20 lbs. Now, since about Feb 14 I have teetered between 223 and 227 for two weeks. I'm so stressed! I'm between 500 and 750 calories a day. Some days I get all my Protein, some days if don't. Some days I get in my Vitamin, some days I don't. This is a lot more work than I anticipated.

Anyway, I am almost in tears because I've been stalled so long! Praying this stall ends soon! It is crazy to think what I ate on WW, and lost, and now I am not even dropping a pound?? So depressing! Have a Dr appointment tomorrow- think they will be disappointed for one month out!

Please tell me this stall will end soon!!

I've been in a stall for over 5 weeks.

Whilst you're stalling, you need to measure yourself.

Your body is doing weird things. Like shrinking. Get the tape measure out.

Stalls aren't nice, but they appear to follow a pattern. I have found that I stalled at week 3, stalled at the BMI 31 point (which is practically the same weight as you are stalling at, Sandy) and have stalled at 198-199 for the past 5 weeks. Its like my body is actively resisting moving beyond the 'onederland' point.

Aint nothing you can do apart from hang on in there. It will come off. Least I hope it's bloomin' gonna!

More Protein and more Water.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
