OUCH, OUCH, OUCH! Did I eat too fast?

Recommended Posts

OK, so I am 3 weeks post op and I think I just experienced my first episode of pain following eating too fast? Or maybe not chewing enough?

I had about 1 oz of very soft turkey, which I have been tolerating fine, but I think I wasn't focused enough on my 25-35 chews and going slow. Ouch! I got a lot of pressure and tightness and over-salivating and general discomfort which passed after approximately 20+ minutes.

OK - I get it! Good reminder, sleeve!! You are in charge right now, not me!

Sure sounds like it. But lesson learned.

I had one similar experience. It only took one to know I didn't want it to happen ever again.

The over- salivation is the start of the "slimies" for me. (Vomiting saliva/mucous, general grossness) lying down is a good idea when this occurs. It happens to me when I eat too fast or too much. I am at 10 weeks, and these episodes, thankfully, are few and far between! :)

Yeah, the over-salivation is bizarre and gross. What an excellent governor on eating too much or too fast.

I still find it hard to eat small bites and eat slowly and I make myself uncomfortable after a few bites all the time. I think I will have this problem forever. (hits self over the head). It's really bad if I wait too long to eat.

I ate the EXACT same thing I ate yesterday around the same time but wasn't paying attention today and had this experience because I wasn't paying attention and ate too fast.

I STILL on occasion, have a little bit of pain when I eat and I know its self-induced (eating too fast)...I have to constantly remind myself to SLOW down...hardest habit for me to break!

Same here ... I have to really concentrate on eating slowly. The pain from eating too much or too fast is a good incentive to control it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
