Better than expected...

I had my bypass surgery on 02/19/14. During my two week pre-op diet I dropped 15 lbs. My surgery weight was 303. Two night hospital stay was OK. the only real issue was sleeping....I sleep on my stomach. I have had very little pain or discomfort. Other than some very minor gas pain Sunday, not much to speak of. scale said 295 this morning! Pleasantly surprised how this has gone so far....especially since this is just the beginning of a new lifestyle. On my way to a new me!

I'm curious how long it takes to get back to stomach sleeping. I had my gallbladder out 11 days ago via just one belly button incision and I'm almost back to sleeping on my stomach. I'm worried about that aspect of the bypass since it's 5 or 6 incisions.

I slept on my side with a body pillow for about a week and a half. slowly made it back to my stomach after that. I am three weeks out today and sleep better than I have in years....on my stomach.

I'm one week out and I was able to sleep on my side last night. Each night gets better and I'm sleeping better.

I too am a tummy sleeper I am day 5 post op and have a very hard time falling asleep on my back. I have been sleeping with like 5 pillows under my back and head. I started last night and placed a pillow under the left side of my tummy and lay on my side for a few.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
