Have anyone gained weight the day of surgery and the surgeron turned them down? I know in class they will tell us the surgeon will make us put our clothes back on if we gain weight on the day day of surgery.

Some will some won't it depends entirely on your insurance and surgeon. My surgeon is known for putting people "back on the bench" for 6 months if they gain or test positive for tobacco or alcohol day of surgery. They understand that we have a difficult time losing weight, they love to see te scale trending down no matter if it's .2lbs or 50lbs, or they at least want to see us maintaining (staying the same). They consider us not ready if we gain. That's my particular program though, all are different. I'm guessing if they say it, they mean it.

I can say that I highly doubt that this will happen. I understand being denied for smoking or drinking but weight gain, come on? We are encouraged to lose weight before surgery. We are motivated by these certain "beliefs." But I would say that it is extremely rare for that to occur. If it did, I'm sure it would be for a HUGE amount of weight. I actually gained a ton before my final surgery consult. The surgeon said nothing. If you follow your fast (if you have one) as close as possible, you will be fine. The fast is for your benefit and it will allow the surgeon to maneuver easily around your liver. Also, if you are a female you may gain weight because of your cycle. It is not totally out of the realm.

This happens to many people. It is mostly anxiety. I was worried about literally EVERYTHING and none of it happened. You will be just fine. Worry is normal. This is a big deal! You can do this. Stay as focused as possible. Good luck!

Thanks you are absolutely right. I am a bit worry because my surgery is tomorrow and the nurses always told us about surgeons canceling the day of surgery maybe to scare us into losing more weight.

Our coordinator informed us that if we gain any additional weight that out surgery will be cancel, especially if you gain more than your start weight they will cancel your surgery and they have. I would focus on making good food choices and ensuring that you do not gain more than your original weigh in amount. Because all doctors are different and have different requirements, you never know. I do know that I was given a specific amount of weight that they wanted me to loose from day one which was 20 pounds, because they want to see if you are willing to make the changes and commitment to this lifestyle change. I ensure that I do not go over my allowed calories and find my self asking when I do eat am I hungry and counting calories on everything. I also have found out with me drinking close to 64 ounces of Water everyday yo are not quite as hungry because you are filled up on liquids.< /p>

Yikes that is a bit nervewracking! I wont be having surgery til summer ( I just started a new job!) but I would be so saddened if I couldnt have surgery due to a gain.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
