Day 3 post surgical banding - no hunger pains is so weird

Recommended Posts

Can't believe it is day 3. Still on clear liquid diet until tmrw, then goes to full liquids. Have absolutely NO hunger pains whatsoever. My total intake last two days is two bottles of gatorade, small black coffee and a bowl of Vietnamese pho broth. This just seems crazy to me, but I am along for the ride at this point. Started feeling some tight pain in stomach area last night and took a pain pill. Slept fine no problems. Went to work this morning for 4 hours, now back home trying to take it easy. Kinda hard to put on my socks and/or bend down this morning when putting on my suit.

Every time I tried a diet in the past it was always the hunger pains that got me miserable and put me in a really bad mood. So weird not to have them. I basically have not had much to eat or drink since monday morning, and have dropped 13 pounds since then. It almost seems too good to be true, but then again I have read on this site that almost no one feels hungry after banding surgery for a while.

Enjoy while you can. There will be a time between this and when your band is adjusted that will remind you how hard it is to diet.

I'm with you MacDaddy, I'm 4 days post op and have yet to feel real hungry. I started full liquids yesterday and had a hard time getting 4oz of my protien shake down, I think I really only drank 3 of the 4 and was satisfied. Congrats to you and lets hope this feeling continues!!

I'm 6 days post op and have been on a clear liquid diet until tomorrow. I been hungry for the last 4 days.,the hunger pains are worse than the gas pains at this point. The only thing that helps with my hunger pains in the liquid hydro condone with Tylenol the surgeon gave me.

It is nice, huh? As time goes on you will start to have hunger pains as the surgery heals.. but still evan later on, it's nice to have the band keep you feeling full longer than with out the band. I love my band, but there have been times when I had a rough go at it. Just go by the rules!! Good luck!

well, I got the band in 2007 and just had it repositioned because it slipped. I have no idea when it slipped...I think back and remember a period where I was having trouble with it being tight a year ago. So I am day 6 post op and only have 3 Boost Protein shakes a day right now and doing well. I do have hunger pains, but I tell myself, it's ok, I'm not starving and it's not a big deal to have hunger pains. Rather have them and be size 12 than size 24.

I was 250 and lost 100, got to 150 in just 6 months. I was VERY careful and strict with my diet. I went from size 24 to 8, yes in 6 months. I am now in size 12 at 173 lb now but working on it.

It's so important to think healthy! The band is a tool and you can still eat calories and fat and the band won't help. So don't think this is a quick fix. You have to do the work! I would do it all over again and again.

Start exercising!!!! best thing for you! Good luck!!

Glad for you MacDaddy, and that is very encouraging. I hope soon not to have hunger pains as well.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
