2 week follow up and mental strength

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I went for my 2 week follow up. I was excited to remove those staples and to hear what my doctor would say about my weight loss. Well I had an interesting experience. First i did not see my doctor, I did see the nutritionist which was a great help and the nurse practitioner took out the staples (that part was a little painful). But the most painful part of that appointment was hearing that i was not in the weight loss range seen at my two week mark.

Apparently people tend to loose 10%-15% and I was at 8%. Immediately my brain went to crazy mode, why did i do this surgery? How am I going to loose all this weight if i can't even do it now? I was crazy? I should eat less? I should walk more? maybe its time to go to gym and work hard?

I went crazy and at some point and after telling my husband of all those crazy thoughts, I was reminded of how much I have to work on my mind and not beating me up. Ok so I did not loose within the range but i am loosing weight. And i have been dizzy and weak which has not helped me walk, but i did get good tips to help me feel better and yesterday i walked a lot more and felt better.

What a roller coaster i had yesterday. I thought i share this with others to continue to clear my head.

What were some of your "good tips"?

IzzyBelle - WOW!! I didn't realize that there were "rules" about how fast someone should lose weight especially on a liquid diet! I probably would have gone a little "crazy" too, and indignant to boot! And then I would have beat myself up for not writing down exactly every kilo-calorie I ever ate and keeping track to the thousandth of a k-cal, etc! And of course that would set me up for complete failure and I'd be right back at the start...

You know what? I bet you are doing just fine! I am sure there's an average, you know? From 1% to 30% and right smack in the middle is "10-15%" but just a hair off the middle is 8-9% and that's where you are! I bet it's like little kids' growth charts - being smaller or bigger than "average" doesn't mean diddly squat if the kid is happy and healthy, right? So I bet you're doing great! And you're doing it right, and you're happy and (trying to be) healthy and the weight will follow. Hang in there! *hugs*

To deal with my weakness and dizziness at this point i was told to start drinking Protein drink first thing in the morning and to do 10 minute walks instead of longer which drain most of my energy.

Day 2 following this advice and its helping a lot.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
