How long after banding until I can take NSAIDs again?

Recommended Posts

I miss my NSAID (Suldinac aka Clinoril) that I normally take on a regular basis. Its a prescription one and my docs had told me i could take it up to twice a day every day. Generally though I tend to take it 4-7 times a week. No NSAIDs since one week before my surgery. Well its two weeks after. I need something for pain. I guess I could ask for a mild opiate but I don't like to use those unless I need to due to tolerance fears. ANy ideas.

I will not take NSAIDS again due the risk of eroding my stomach lining. That is the effect they can have and I would hate to risk my band. For pain, I took liquid Lortab that my doc sent home with me and then switched to Acetaminophen later on. I also have some chronic pain issues due to my MS and take Vicodine from time to time but try to keep things over the counter.

When I got to a new doctor or ER, I always list NSAIDS as an allergy or just tell them no NSAIDS. When they ask, I explain the LabBand to them and they get it right away.

Make sure you speak to your docotr as everyone is is different and I don't think anyone should be in constant pain.

NSAIDS should not be taken when you're banded.

I was given an rx for Lortab when I went home from surgery and it worked quite well. After a day or two I moved on to liquid Tylenol. I've found it much, much more effective than regular/pill Tylenol.

Speak with your PCP and surgeon about the NSAID issue.

NSAIDS should not be taken when you're banded.

I was advised of this as well; as a matter of fact, I was taking Lodine for arthritis in the knees before I was banded, and now I found an alternative in both cortisone shots from my orthopedist as well as taking glucosomine and chondroitin--which turn out to be more effective than the Lodine ever was! The funny thing was I took 400mgs of the Lodine twice a day, whereas now I take the cortisone shots every 8 weeks and the 450 mg glucosomine and chondroitin caplets (which I call my "knee grease" and is broken up into my Protein drink at present) once a day. LOL.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
