Cannot eat or drink anything, i get sick.. Help!

Recommended Posts

I am 18 days post op, had my surgery January 27th. At first when I was on liquids, I was fine. But now that I am on soft foods, everything makes me sick. I feel nautious when I eat or try to drink Water. I can barely drink maybe 30 oz of water a day. Will this ever go away? I can eat my broths fine though. So frustrating..

You may not be ready for soft foods yet...everyone heals at a different rate. If broth is OK, go back to liquids for another few days or a week. At the beginning I could not drink plain Water so I mixed apple juice 50/50 with water and it was much easier to drink. You can try adding some unflavored Unjury protien to the broth too. And yes, this will go away....for some people it takes longer than others.

It will go away. I was told to have a cup of hot tea a half hour before I ate. It seam to help. I am 31/2 months out and liquids are still easier that food. But I can eat anything now. Jut not much of it

Same thing happened to me. Dehydration causes nausea too. I switched back to liquids and skipped my purée stage and went straight to soft foods. I'm much better now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
