I have been wondering about all the calorie counting I see. My doctor's office does not give a calorie count. They are more worried about 90 grams of Protein and 90 oz of Fluid. Last week I only do 1.5 pounds. I'm not exercising yet other than some walking, but not much. We are starting to look at gym memberships and hopefully we'll be starting in the next few weeks. So should I be more concerned about my calorie count?

You are about to get a variety of answers concerning this post....Me personally, I have never counted one calorie yet. I do however look at the back of the box and try to gauge from there how much I am eating...

I was never told to count. Like you Protein first and and veggies, fruit and carbs. 60 g Protein and 60 oz of Water. I try to do more of both of those..Not always on target.....

My NUT told me not to worry about counting calories and to focus on the Protein amounts being sure to take in lean protein. Of course, she also said to get the Water in as well. I don't eat carbs at all so I'm only getting the small carb amounts from veggies here and there or whatever carbs are in my Breakfast Protein Drink. I'm losing each week consistently but I'm not dropping huge numbers each week. I have just begun the exercising beyond walking because my stamina and energy levels were low due to anemia going into surgery.

I'm not eating carbs specifically and not even a lit of veggies except when I make something like meatloaf. I was wondering if maybe I'm not getting enough carbs. My energy that I got in the first weeks is gone. I get blood work next week. I'll be anxious to see what my Iron and B12 levels will be.

I had my surgery on Dec 9. At my 6 week check the pushed the Protein first and foremost. It is the stage where we are. We will be able to broaden our diet later.

I haven't been able to walk due to being in a high snow area. I am down about 40 pounds. One plateau otherwise the scale goes down a bit each day.

Slow and steady.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
