feeling of lump/stuck- in spine - level w breasts in back

Sorry - it is really hard to describe this.

I am on soft foods per my surgeon ( 2.5 weeks out)

I had very small meal of salmon in sauce with mashed cauliflower florets.

Presumably I ate too fast or didn't chew well enough.

Suddenly , had this lumpy feeling like food was stuck above the stomach.

Stopped eating and for next hour threw up foam and slime.

However, eight hours later still have this lumpy feeling and its painful.

Sipping Fluid does not help.

Has anyone else experienced this please?

Does it pass?

Have I done something to myself?

Would really appreciate feedback

I haven't had my surgery yet, but 2.5 weeks out and eating solid food sounds way too early. I wont be eating solids post op for a month or more ( I have to double check my schedule....it may be 5 weeks out) . I am sure the vets will chime in, but I have never seen solids "per surgeon" just 2.5 weeks post op

My surgeon allowed soft solids at 10 days after surgery.

wow, I just checked my paperwork and stage 4 is soft foods and I don't get there for a month post op.

my jaw will be well rested after six weeks of no chewing.

None of us are doctors so if the feeling persists, call and check with whoever did your surgery to get reassurance that all is well. More than likely that you ate bits that weren't well enough chewed and your stomach is feeling a bit tender as a result.

Salmon is pretty dense food (as is cauliflower) so maybe go back a step and find things that will be kinder to your stomach if you don't chew well enough, eat too fast etc. Soft foods shouldnt need much chewing at all. But eating is always trial and error in the early days and everyone's stomach is different.

You won't necessarily have a big choice to start with but I would probably try eggs (omelette, scrambled etc), I steamed fish in milk and minced beef, chicken etc and cooked them until they really didn't need chewed :-)))) Also check the list you got post surgery and find things that might be easier to eat for now.

It is highly unlikely you have damaged your sleeve but don't be scared to ask someone medical for theirmopinion. Take it easy, this is a marathon not a sprint, so if you need to eat slightly more puréed foods than soft foods, do that...

Ps you may also have eaten too much... Hence the feeling of food being stuck. You will get that if you overfill your little stomach... that might be why you got the slimes and throwing up. So one bite at a time and see how it goes until you learn how much is enough :-))) And it is likely to be way less than you think.....

Actually, I was put on puree food at day 3 and soft food at day 6 (!) whilst still in hospital..

When I got back home, I decided to go back to full liquids for 3 days as I felt very rushed.

I live in Switzerland and this is the process in hospitals here. The first "meal" post surgery wasa cup of milky coffee!

I am aware that this is radically different than the process outlined on this site and in the manybooks I have read but the NUT is pressurising me to eat soft food.

My big concern is the persistent "lump" feeling under my bra strap at back.

Just doing liquids today as a precaution but it is not easing.

Will talk to someone tomorrow if not better.

Whilst we are always told to follow instructions, we should always be able to go at our own pace, especially as you don't want to jump ahead! However, as you say, the Swiss way is pretty different ;-)

Do feel this may be related to quantity and dense Protein - but good idea to talk to someone tomorrow if you still don't feel right....

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
