I was just standing around with a few people and one remarked how much weight i lost recently they were asking how i had done it and i was starting to say diet and exercise and. one of the people i told said oh yeah well she had surgery. umm gee thanks Jerky. great now everyone is gonna know. news spreads like wildfire in this place.

I work in a small call center...two people had the surgery before me, and one after (so far)... people found out and I was glad to tell them I wish I hadn't waited so long and that WLS is only a tool, I still have to work at it every day... most people don't think of it as the "easy way out" anymore, they are more educated about the process...

Just answer questions honestly, there will be some that will benefit from your knowledge!

But, bottom line...this was YOURS to tell, not hers...so sorry...let us know how things turn out there...

Well I would never trust her with any personal information again. And I would tell her so! I wonder what was behind her blurting that out.. Maybe you are looking to good for her to handle...

I have no issue telling people about the surgery. I feel if I can educate someone else on its benefits then that's a good thing. People will forget you had the surgery when something more exciting comes along. Good luck.

I would have been furious and embarrassed. Embarrassed only because she gave a different answer than you. My parents have taken it upon themselves to tell almost every single person they know. I'm pissed off about that. It's my story to tell, not theirs. I've only told my best friend and my husband (obviously). I just don't want my personal story to end up broadcasted on Facebook. People who do that have to find a way to make all life about themselves. It's selfish of them. And they look shocked when your mad that they tell people. My parents came to help us with my 10month old while I was in the hospital and almost every story they told was about how they were talking to someone and how that someone knew someone who did it. It makes me wonder if this topic is the start of every conversation they have! Ugh! I could vent all day. I'm sorry that you were caught off guard.

Like I said, women can be snarky. It is your life and your right to be private but once you tell it in the workplace it is everyones business. So sorry!

yeah i guess that was it i was just caught "off guard" i chose who i wanted to tell and whether she told on purpose or not i was just kind of embarrassed b/c i was saying a different answer. plus it was said on front of someone who i know blabs around. there are 150+ employees in my store. ill just wait til they talk about something diffrent i guess. i wouldnt change getting my sleeve no matter what anyone thinks!

This is not a thread about whether your surgery should be kept secret or not, but rather someone who was trusted betraying that trust. Let's not get off topic.

I agree with RJ, my guess is they are one of those folks who think surgery is the "easy way out" and are resenting you making improvements in your life while they continue languishing in their doldrums. I would pity them and let them know they betrayed your confidence. Don't tell them you were angry, upset or anything. That may have been their intention and you don't want to let them know they accomplished their goal. Just let them know you were disappointed in them. This was something which you wanted to reveal on your own terms, not theirs.

I have a blabbermouth coworker like that. I had to set her straight real quick. She hasn't said another word since. I don't mind telling most people, but like I told her its for ME to decide. She can feel free to share anything she wants about herself but leave me out of it!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
