Post op soups and protein

Recommended Posts

I really liked a potato leek Soup made by Imagine -- found in the natural foods section of our regular grocery store. Delicious, creamy, satisfying. Comes in a carton. Mix it up with tuna for a casserole when you're at that stage. Good luck and congratulations -- we are turning our lives around!

I had been using Muscle Milk until I realized it's only 16 Protein per scoop. So I bought Matrix by Syntrax and I hate the taste of it. It's been hard eating only broth and gagging down crushed medicine but now to have to gag down Protein Drinks is a total bummer. Has anyone else here experienced going from muscle milk to something that tastes somewhat as good?

Try Premier Protein which is premade and can be found at SAMs club and costco. Even my friends who hate Protein Shakes like it. Love the chocolate flavor...tastes just like chocolate milk. You can also warm it up and then it tastes like hot cocoa!

Darn I don't have a SAMs or Costco around me.

If you're on Clear liquids, check with your doctor about how to prepare the Soup. Clear Liquids usually mean that you would prepare the soup with Water rather than milk. I would call on that and ask. Also, what is "phase 3" on your eating plan? Generally, the time after WLS is staged out 1 being clear liquids, 2 being full liquids, 3 being pureed foods and/or soft foods, etc.

On my stage 3 Tomato Soup is listed as an example with low fat lactaid milk for added Protein. I was shocked it was on there also. I ate only what was on the example menu.

It is strange how many different versions there are.

Very true! But then, there are different diets with every surgery as well - I'm a sleever so mine was a bit different than yours would be :)

My favorite Protein Drink for almost a year straight now has been premiere Protein in chocolate flavor that can be found at SAMs club and costco. Tastes just like chocolate milk. Also great to warm it up and it tastes like hot cocoa! :)

I also made any Soups I could in the beginning with milk to add additional protein. I also added unflavored protein into anything I could.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
