Vacation after sleeve

Recommended Posts

K. I'm just beginning this journey. Going for NUT and Psych next week then I have some other tests to be done before we schedule surgery. Hoping for late fen to mid march.

At the same time we want to take our kids (18,13,&12) to Disney this summer but I want to give myself enough time to recover and enjoy. What is a good time to plan for this type of trip with lots of walking and heat. I don't want to hold everyone back

I think I would have waited until about week 5 or 6 for a Disney trip, so I could enjoy it. I could probably have done it sooner, but not had as much fun. I tired easily thru week 4 - I needed a nap most days.

I walked for exercise before surgery and was able to walk right after. I walked a lot - it's the best medicine for recovery. I was able to walk about a mile the week after surgery and went up from there. If you're going to wonder around Disney, you need to be in good shape!

I'm at Week 11 right now and going to San Francisco next week - I'm planning on walking every where. I feel great. I feel like I can walk up and down those hills with ease.

If you work at it, you'll increase your stamina pretty quickly.

I'm 4 weeks out and am having trouble getting all of my fluids in, so I'd worry about sweating too much and being dehydrated. Give yourself 2 months?

I got on my treadmill as soon as I got home from surgery--I did the hospital shuffle at 0.5 miles/hour--but I did 10 minutes every 2 hours during the day and added some time and some speed as I was able each day. By week 3 I could do 2 or 2.5 miles/hour for 30-60 minutes at a time. It did that twice a day--the main goal was to rebuild my stamina because at week 4, I was on a grueling 6 week trip to 6 different countries (12 flights, 10 cities, and two 10-hour car rides) for a business trip. I was on my feet all day most of the work days and hiking/site-seeing the other days. You're doing this to get healthy and to be able to do more things with your family. I would say to plan for it and work for it to make it happen! Just get your fluids and your Protein and walk, walk, walk. I can't believe how good I have felt --since 4 days post op--don't hold the 1st 4 days against me! :-)

We are planning a disney trip this year as well and I am being sleeved 2/24. We decided to book our trip for the fall in hopes that I will have lost a bit and be able to enjoy the trip more while carrying around less weight. Good luck when you go!! :)

Adding this comment about Disney vacations in general... We did the park hopper pass and stayed on Disney property. So we'd do the early opening magic hour thing, and after lunch, went back to our room to nap/swim. Then off to another park in the evening. It was a great way to get a break from all the standing/walking and cool down. I highly recommend!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
