Nervous of not qualifying for surgery!

Recommended Posts

My fist appt with surgeon was December 5 and that was my consultation! I'm barely 40 BMI and no co-morbidly health problems except high cholesterol, I had a sleep study which it was negative because I didn't have any signs of sleep apnea and the reason why I didn't have any signs is because I didn't sleep all night! And the tech guy knew this! But the nurse from my surgeon send me to get all the pre-op test any ways. She said that I still qualify for WLS but I'm very NERVOUS of getting denied! I had my EKG test today and made and appt for my ultrasound for next Monday and I will call tomorrow for my NUT. and my psych evaluation appt. Everything is happiness so fast that it feels like is to good to be true! Plus the nurse put me in there schedule for surgery for March 7 so I'm very confuse!!!! If anybody had same or similar situation please help!!! I need some peace of mind!!

What does your insurance require or are you self pay? I went thru my whole 6 month program ( that took 10 months) including having my date before my info was submitted to insurance, I knew I meet and fulfilled all their requirements but I was still a nervous wreck

My insurance requires a BMI of 40 or 35+ with co-morbid problems and 3 moths of weight management and I think that's all. plus I gave them a BIG list of all supplements that I have taken for the past 24 years. This doctor is very good on his notations and I think that's a plus!!

Hello! :)

I was in a similar situation. I have BCBS IL. I was under 40 BMI and didn't have the 35 BMI plus 2 "required" comorbidities such as hypertension, apnea, ect. I do have high cholesterol (which counted). My insurance company requires documentation that every form of treatment has been exhausted and hasn't worked. For example, you have hypertension and no treatment has been able to control it. You ONLY have to provide this if you are under 40 BMI. Needless to say, my insurance company would not allow a yes for predetermination because of this. I simply gained the weight. At first I wore weights and weighed in. A few weeks later I had gained the weight that was necessary and my BMI is 40.1. I received an automatic go-ahead. I'm not telling you that you will be denied. All insurance companies are different but this is a commonality for people that are under 40 BMI. Don't lose hope. There are "ways" to work with the system if need be. Good luck.

I feel you. I just went to my final appointment before they would submit me for insurance approval. I am doing the nervous/happy dance over here. You are not alone. :)

Hi Skinny minnie I send you a PM last night! How are you doing with your journey? The nurse told me that they will use my first weight which makes me 40 BMI. Thanks for the hope giving me! But if I don't qualify then I will just appeal and hope for the best. Thanks!!!! :0)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
