2 months out--ACID ugh

Recommended Posts

Anyone? Been fine so far, taking Protonix (PPI) daily. All of a sudden acid hit me yesterday. Waited to see what today would hold and it was awful! Accompanied by hiccups (when not eating).

Gonna call doc tomorrow but thought I would ask here in the meantime.

Thats been my only issue but i take prescrived med for it and im all set .. just dont eat and lay right down.. if you eat you must wait 2-3 hours before bed and that usually will solve your issue.

I take a prescription for it too and it seemed to work fine for eight weeks then all of a sudden not so much. The acid starts in the am and lasts all day...will the 3 hours before lying down (at night) still help? That will be hard...but I can try.

UGH called this morning and they said they'd call back. Waited till 4:15 and finally called back myself and they leave at 4 on Fridays!!!

Any advice on lasting the weekend? I tried not eating for 3 hours before bed last night and it was just the same (a little worse) today.

Anyone experience acid reflux starting new 2 mos out even while on meds?

Anything I can do/take to help?

Any concerning things I should watch for?

Go back to an earlier stage of eating. Maybe just Protein drinks and Water? I'd go to the emergency if I couldn't keep liquids down.

I had it before my sleeve, and within a month, got 100% worse! I now take dexilant 2x a day. My dr said it could take 6 months to resolve. Good luck! I sympathize. Talk to an on call dr @ your office.

I was in Protonix for 10+ years and about a month before surgery it stopped working, weird! He put me on Prevacid Solutabs post op then switched me to regular Prevacid after one month! He also told me Icoukd double up and take two pills one in am one in on of I had any issues...I did and it worked! For what it's worth I used to take double Protonix for a while too...40mg 2x/day, perhaps put a call in to them and see if this will work, typically they say to do it to get you out of a "bad spell" I'd make sure they ok it tho! Good Luck I've struggled with GERD for so long and he wasn't the slightest worried about me having this surgery, tho his partner that did my Endoscopy figured we might change to Bypass...he seems to think I'll get relief when the weight is going away! So far so good, down 40lbs in 10 weeks! Hope you get some relief too!

Thanks everyone. I never had this pre surgery except when I was pregnant, and this is my first bout post surgery.

I did kind of back up on my food (haven't really progressed very far anyway) and just did shakes, Greek yogurt, some chicken and laughing cow cheese today. Prob will do even less tomorrow.

Getting a bit worse and starting to have these pinching pains sharp behind and above my solar plexus, kind of like the esophagus is spamming =(. Not very many, maybe two an hour (they seem to come in pairs).

Gonna try to make it through the night and then maybe call the on call doc tomorrow if it doesn't get better.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
