Two Months so far, is this normal?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so this is my first posting on here. Don't know if I am doing this in the right area or whatever. I'm Alex I got my surgery in November, my starting weight was 246 I am now about 205/210 I keep fluctuating those 5 lbs. I'm primarily eating salads really and completely changed my eating habits. I only eat lean Protein and although I don't drink as much Water as I should I am increasing it slowly. I've received about three fills so far. To me, it doesn't seem as if I am losing weight as fast as I have seen others losing which does have me very concerned. I wasn't expecting to only be at 205 by now, I was I'd be losing 1-2lbs per weeks as my nutritionist told me before I got the surgery. I've mad tremendous accomplishments so far like my pants size has gone down to a size 12 from 16 and my shirt to a medium/large but my belly is still as big as ever. lol can come one please just tell me if I am doing something wrong possibly? or is this normal? Also I have incorporated some exercise not as much as I was hoping because the gym out here is ridiculously expensive and I am 19 and a college student. So, I was waiting to go back to school to join the planet fitness up there.

Drink lots of Water. And I think u hit the lapband eat goods that r going to keep u full. Do the math? 36 lbs in less than 3 months is about 3 lbs a week. It won't continue at this pace but you're doing as well as anyone else and much better than most?

Most of the weight we lose in the first 30 days is Water weight. By now you're losing fat lbs so Celebrate, you're doing awesome.

It doesn't seem like I was doing great, about four days after I was down to about 225 then from there I'm now about 210. I got my surgery done in November it doesn't sound good at all to me, it doesn't sound normal. It actually sounds pretty crappy.

I don't get it? Your nut told you you should lose 1-2 lbs a week but you're losing 3 lbs a week? How is that not great? It's virtually impossible to lose more than 2.5 lbs per week and that's only if you eat 1000 calories a day and burn off 900 more calories via extreme exercises.

You're going to have to lower your expectations to something more realistic like 1-2 lbs per week unless you plan on doing heavy exercises 2-3 hours a day. It's just simple math and physiology.

no, being that I lost about 15-20 lbs with the not eating thing after surgery, I'm only losing about 1lb a week and I am moderately active

1-2 lbs is all you will lose here on out unless you're an extreme runner/biker/climber?

Like I said earlier, we lose a lot of Water weight the first 30 days and then it slows down to 1-2 lbs/wk if you follow the rules. Especially for low BMI patients like you. I hope I'm wrong and you're the exception to the rule and can lose more than that but it's virtually impossible to accomplish. You are doing better than almost anyone here so far. I lost 12 lbs the first 4 months. That's all. Then I lost another 38 over the next 4 months. I'm not the poster boy for weight loss but I believe I am somewhat normal if there is such a thing?

I guess the fact that my nutritionist said it wasn't normal I started to freak out a bit more but thank you all for the advice and everything.

Sounds to me like you're doing just fine! Just keep doing what you're doing, the weight will come off. Remember to Celebrate every loss, and every positive change...on the scale, but especially those great things that happen that the scale can't show!

Good luck!

You're doing very well so far. What were your expectations going into this? I'm concerned that your "glass half empty" state of mind will sabotage you in the long run. Three pounds a week is great! I lost at that same pace in the beginning, but it's slowed down quite a bit. 30+ pounds in two months is amazing. Please try and work on realistic expectations, or this will be a very disappointing journey.

It is not that I have unrealistic goals or expectations its BEING TOLD that I'm doing poorly that had me concerned.

Did your nutritionist have you confused with a gastric bypass patient? Geez......I cannot imagine why he/she would say something like that, given the numbers you've posted here.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
