I had surgery 11/18. Have lost 30 pounds but seem to stall all the time. I'm hungry and fighting mental cravings. Feeling unsuccessful and worried I've stretched my tummy out too quickly. Am I normal?

So many of us are dealing with the stall. We have to hang on, we'll get through it. It's frustrating , though. And I just did something I should NOT have done. OMG.

Help. Where's the thing to start a new topic?

You are completely normal. I continue to go through the same thing. 30lbs in 2 months is great. I had a hard time losing more than 12lbs a month after the 1st 2 months post-op. My doc wanted me to stay on track to lose an average of 10 -12lbs a month. So even though I felt like a slow loser, he was happy.

It will be very difficult for you to stretch your new stomach. It can be done, but from the research I've read, you really have to work at it to permanently stretch your stomach.

At 13 months post-op, I still get mental cravings for food - nothing in particular, I just want to eat. I especially get them if I've eaten Pasta, fruit or sugary stuff. So I try to stick with things that don't trigger my head hunger and keep me filled. Stuff like pork loin, chicken breast and Beans.

You know, the other thing I wonder about... so much of the U.S. is dealing with this cold snap. One of the reasons our bodies like to have fat is to help keep us warm. Sometimes I think that every time I go out into these sub-freezing temperatures, my body thinks, "I AM holding onto this fat! I need it! I'm not going to freeze!"

So... it will warm up in a couple of months, we'll get out more, we'll drink more Water, and things will kick in once again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
