How long did you crush your meds post op?

Recommended Posts

Just curious when others were allowed to go back to swollowing whole crushable meds. My surgeon didnt give a time frame and will ask next followup.

Mine were crushed while I was in hospital, not all just some. I was able to not crush them anymore once I was released from hospital and got home. I was released from hospital four days after surgery, so that's when I my meds were no longer being crushed. Hoped this helped :)

Yea I was expecting to have to do them for a while from the way 'crushing meds' was mentioned so much in my bariatric support groups I went to. When I got home I would take ONE pill at a time. Take one, wait 5-10 mins and take another. Best of luck to you with this amazing journey! I am three and a half months out and down 91 pounds! Your going to do great and feel like you've never felt before soon enough!!

Thanks and very impressed with your progress! Big congrats!

I'm feeling less restrictions with my liquids. Maybe swelling subsiding. Might give it a try tomorrow.

I swallowed mine beginning the day after surgery. All except the Calcium supplements. Post op orders were to skip those the first two weeks. I just took a tiny sip and took each pill one at a time.

I never crushed my medication. I always cut them in half. I'm three years post op and still cut my pain pill in half. The others are small enough to swallow whole and my Vitamins are the chewable Gummy bear types.

Me too but no pill skipping was required. I was given medications in the hospital that were pills.

My instructions were exactly the same, which really shocked me because one of my meds is Pradaxa, which is a very large capsule. I kept thinking "they said nothing bigger than an M&M and this is MUCH bigger" but I had specifically shown my doctor the pill and asked and he okayed it. I guess the M&M reference is nothing bigger around and that the length of the pill doesn't matter. Anyway, I've had no problems at all with swallowing the pills (except being very nervous about it at first)!

I don't have the band but I know a friend of mine uses the liquid children's Tylenol which is what her dr recommended.

I only crushed a couple of days then just took I took one a time and made sure to flush. Them down.

Boy, I made a couple bad mistakes when I was still taking BP meds. Took pill with Water and laid down to go to bed only to wake up with the most horrendous burning in my esophagus! I,obviously, didn't wait long enough to let it pass through and it literally took HOURS to stop burning! I finally threw it up !!!! Awful awful feeling

Be careful. :)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
