Adderall + Xanax post op?

Recommended Posts

Will I be able to take my prescribed meds with vsg? I'm nervous because my adderall doesn't make me hungry, in combination with VSG I'm wondering how that works? Anyone have any advice on this subject?

I am actually on both Adderall and Xanex. From the over a dozen meds I was on, those are now the only two I am on post op besides my Vitamin and Coumadin. If you are having the sleeve I see no reason why you would not be able to. I know with the bypass they are a little bit more picky with time release meds. I am three and a half months post op and I am still able to take these meds. Hope this helped :-)

My Dr. had me restart my psych meds once I was released from the hospital. I didn't take any of my meds while I was there which was for two nights since the hospital was quite a ways from home. He took me off of all meds except those that were psych. I had to crush them so time release was no longer an option. Some I was able to get compounded (made into liquid) but that was worse than crushing. You can ask if they have a liquid form some meds do. I had no problem with the Xanax but others caused me to get sick. Our body changes with the surgery. What we tolerate and even how things taste. What we once liked we may not stand post op.. Just work closely with your drs. Good luck with your surgery.. I am glad that I had mine wouldn't turn back for anything.

Thanks so much!!! Is it harder for you to force down food being on adderall and having a smaller stomach? This is mostly what I'm concerned about.. :/

I don't really think it has to do with the meds at all. It seems with the surgery the surgery and I have done all the work. Your stomach is so small afterwards I don't really feel like the meds effects it. I am three and a half months out and down over 90 pounds :-) It was well worth it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
