Hi all, has anyone gone from having a vsg to a bypass ? I had my vsg done a year ago and it was not successful. So now my only option is to have a bypass revision.

If you don't mind me asking...How was your VSG unsuccessful?

I know of at least two other people floating around here who are having or had a revision from vsg to bypass but I do not know their stories.

I had lap band a yr ago. Lost 45 or so lbs. Was having lots o tummy pain and headache. Doc said I was at a 34 BMI and if I wanted a reversal now was the time. I had it removed on Dec 4 and bypass on Jan 9. From what I can tell I have had more pain than if I had just had the bypass right off..

keish_lorraine the reason I say it was/is unsuccessful is because I have only lost about 40lbs total (that includes 21 lbs lost pre op) I had the surgery a year ago.

KristinaRNY I hope they share their story with me...I am so scared of pushing my luck ya know....I am thinking of having it done by Dr. Joya in PV Febuary 11th, 2014.

Lovinglife thank you for sharing your story...I hope your pain subsides soon.

I had no pain after my VSG so I am afraid that I am gonna be in alot of pain this time :(

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
