Hi misty, thanks for the advice, my reason for bypass isn't for the diabetes my reason is more for gurd. I have it horribly and I spoke to my doctor about it and he said that with the sleeve its still possible that the gurd will still be there but with the bypass its more likely to go away and plus the weight loss percentages with the bypass too.

I am RNY patient, when I began my WL journey, I walked into my surgeons office with a made up mind to have lap band, I chose lap band because I felt that I didn't have over 100 lbs to lose, but because of my co-morbidities, such as GERD, severe acid reflux, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, knee problems, borderline diabetic...all due from my weight, he suggested RNY. After I researched the difference between all of the tools, I would have ended up having revision because of GERD. I know people who had the sleeve, still suffer from GERD...but remember, research, know that everybody journey is different, that these are tools, and believe in your decision.

Hi yocolefleet I have all the same things except sleep apnea. I have a severe case of acid reflux and it is awful!!! I hate it!!! I had the band already and it has been removed. I am very sure what I want now and I totally believe in my decision now more than I did when I started my research!!!! Thanks for the advice!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
