Migraines amd RNY

Recommended Posts

I have had Migraines for several years. They have been very well controlled with daily medication for nearly 18+ months. Since I had bypass surgery, my migraines have been out of control. I am getting 2 to 3 severe migraines every week at this point. No changes to my daily medicine routine. Anyone else experience this?

So sorry to hear that, they are miserable. I have had the exact opposite since my RNY. I had my surgery 4/2/13 and since then have had 1 Migraine. I use to get them pretty regularly. I can't help but think that something that used to be in my diet was the trigger for mine. I hope you get some relief soon.

I was hoping that would be me too, but it is crazy! My surgeon is doing some research to try to figure out a way to help...I actually had one in his office one day and almost passed out. Glad to hear you are doing better!

maybe your not absorbing the Rx....check with your Dr, you might need stronger/diff meds

I actually hadn't thought about that, but that makes sense. I just moved to a new state so I have a call in to a new neurologist to see if I can have my medicine checked out. Thanks for thinking of this!

I'm a long-time Migraine sufferer too, but am thrilled that they've been controlled. Like someone else said, part of the relief has to be because of my healthier eating and exercise. I did have to change my migraine meds though since my old (and go-to reliable) one had an NSAID in it, which I can no longer have. But definitely call your doc and let him/her know...it could be hormonal, chemical, etc, and we've all altered our bodies and changed our chemistries, so your doc should know what's happening with you. I know when i quit caffeine and sugar before surgery, i also went thru withdrawals and got Migraines. The other thing it could be is bounce-back migraines, which sometimes happens when you stop migraine meds (I'm sure you know this). In any case, there's no reason you should be in pain, so call your doc.

I have been much better on Migraines since surgery but still have had some. My neurologist did Botox. It is great! I also use maxalt which is ok with my pouch.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
