getting a cold post op..

Recommended Posts

Ok..so I'm looking to find out what anyone has experienced post op with getting a cold or the flu.

I have a cold starting and I seriously feel like I could sleep all day long. Lack of energy can't come close to how I feel.

I'm hitting my Protein, and Vitamin goals still. Didn't hit Water yesterday but am on track to hit it today.

I've not felt this level of exhaustion since right after surgery, im 11 weeks post op now.

Thanks for any insight you guys!

Yep! I was in the hospital for 8 days at the end of October for ischemic colitis - tons of IV antibiotics. As soon as I got home I began coughing and was pretty sick for a week, so I went to my primary doctor. He said I had bronchitis. I asked him how could I get sick with anything with so much antibiotics in my body. He called it a secondary infection and that it happens all the time. I am wondering if this is part of what people call a hospital acquired infection? I am much better now and was able to have my sleeve 12/23. Hope you get better soon.

I'm a little more than three weeks post and I came down with a cold a few days ago. Just been taking Vitamin C. It kind of helps. I'm just kind of worried about my incision spots when I cough.

I had a bad cold over Christmas. . Went back down to 200-300 calories a day.. it sucked. I used zicam and liquid dayquill. After my cold I spiked up to like 1200 calories for a few days then it all leveled out. Lots of broth... added plain Unjury to broth to keep Protein up. You can look at my diary on mfp for those few days before and after Christmas if you want. Hope you feel better

I'm 12 weeks (I think) and had a cold over Christmas/New Year's. Still have a tiny bit of gunk, but I have been able to work out through it and feel pretty okay. I sing, and it never got to the point that I couldn't perform.

Probably not what you wanted to hear. If anything, I didn't get as sick as the rest of my family and feel pretty good now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
