cosmicbubbles any news yet on a surgery date?

Update on me: I found that San Diego (The Naval Medical Hospital/Balboa hospital) will do the VSG and I am close to being in phase two when I can schedule my surgery. I'm so excited! They're even accommodating for me having a long drive to make and are allowing me to fax in a lot of my test results.

Does anyone know (I am in Alaska with Tricare) if they will pay to have the band removed and the sleeve done? I had my initial surgery off base because at the time on base didn't do the surgery Any info is appreciated

Thank you for letting us know they're doing the VSG at Naval Hospital Balboa. Any insight you could provide on the screening process would be much appreciated. Did Naval Hospital Balboa use TRICARE's conditions (http://www.tricare.mil/CoveredServices/SeeWhatsCovered/BariatricSurgery.aspx) or some other screening process? Thank you :)

@@talkalot1981 Are you at JBER or up in Fairbanks? They might. Dr. Clark has a seminar semi-monthly to talk about the procedures that he does. You'd be able to find out there! Dr. Clark is really awesome, and super nice. Very easy to talk to. Plus, if he approves it, it will be covered, since he's doing everything in house in the hospital. There's no jumping through hoops or anything. Hope that helps!! If you need any other info, feel free to message me! - Carolyn

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
