2nd month weight loss, anyone else afraid they won't lose?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was Dec 3, so about 1 month ago. I lost about 26 lbs the first 3 weeks, and then lost nothing the last week. This week I have lost about 2 lbs so far. I am so afraid I will be a failure with this surgery, and that I won't lose enough, etc, and have to get gastric bypass. Anyone else have this feeling?

Don't panic, your body is just adjusting to the new regime and there is such a thing as the 3 week stall - which you have now experienced!

Best advice is to stick with your plan - Protein, sipping and moving - and your weight loss will keep going. It's not necessarily going to be huge amounts on a weekly basis but over a month you will probably lose a good amount.

But for now, don't lose hope, you're not failing and you're not going to. Hang in there, there are lots of us who are ahead of you who have been through exactly what you're going through and we succeeded. So you will you :-))))

I'm a December 2nd Sleever. I am also experiencing the 3rd week stall, it sucks!! I have had those thought as well, here we go this isn't going to work! I need to throw my scale out the window, it's making me insane. I hope it starts to move again for you, completely understand how frustrating it is!

YES! Yes, I have this fear. I fear I will be the one person this does not work for, which is not an original thought or fear.

I am in my 11th week and I've not dropped any weight in over two weeks. Of the 11+ weeks since surgery, I've been stalled about half the time. Logically, I know it will work, but man, it's tough to keep the positive attitude when the scale won't move.

Now, my fear is working double time because I read a post earlier today about someone who is 6 months out and hasn't lost anything in 3 months. Again, logically, I think that is not the norm, but it is working on my insecurity.

I think it's a normal fear and I also think it's an irrational fear. I have the same thoughts myself. I think it's our natural reaction to dieting, failing, beating ourselves up, then dieting, failing, beating ourselves up. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Follow your plan, exercise and let your body do the rest.

Best of luck to you!

I don't own a scale. I do what I'm supposed to do (for the most part) and I only weigh when I see my doctor. The last time I'd went in I'd lost 25 more pounds. I will not weigh myself every week. It's just too much pressure. It's hard enough taking Vitamins, get Protein, getting Fluid, and trying to exercise. I figure if I lose or not, I still have to do what I'm doing right now anyway so I can stay healthy. So I just let it be. :)

I agree must be three week stall as I'm on week four have not lost in weight since week three. I think it is our bodies adjusting to changes from surgery. I sure hope that is all it is little bummed out since my daughter had surgery one week after me and is still loosing weight daily. Doctor visit tomorrow will see what I need to change or stick with current plan. good luck everyone.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
