Dr. Joffe and the TLBC

Recommended Posts

Lappy sorry to hear that you are having 2nd thoughts after the fact. Trust me it will get better. A few days out I had a similar little freak out and thought oh god what did I do to myself but honestly that goes away as things settle in your body.

I used to be a Coca-Cola fiend I had at least one a day and I thought that not having one would kill me (more like the amount of surgar I was consuming would kill me). Anyway I have not had a coke since Jan and I have to tell you I am not really missing it. :) Yoda is right though be sure to research what people are saying about certain foods if you have questions and then do what i do and see for yourself. I have already learned that bread is not as bad as I thought and that yes dry turkey is really bad. You will find out what works for you just give it a chance.

Just because I don't post a picture of my BMI for the world or put up recipes does not mean I am not allowed to want to know the true reason.

Whoah, whoah, whoah... where do I find these recipes? !!!??

anyways, c'mon, you wanna know, and you've obviously got such a strong opinion and feelings of ulterior motives, CALL THEM! Ask, demand, whatever it takes, and find out for your self... then come back and tell us, please.

Excellent advise Argon, if Lappy is as concerned as he appears to be he should call the clinic and talk to their new C.O.O. I am curious too. It was because of Dr. Joffe that I decided to have the procedure. I am sad to see him go and wish him the best no matter what the circumstances of his departure were.

Lappy, you wrote that you were banded just recently and are still in pain. Take a litte time during your recovery to read some of the many many helpful posts. And have a little patience... while there may be foods that you find you may not be able to tolerate as you tighten your band, you may find that you can tolerate everything. Just hang in there as you see the scale go down and your health improve, I am sure that you will see things a bit differently! There is no pressure here to reveal any personal facts about your weight, BMI or weight loss... just support as we go thru the process!

I would not be surprised if Joffe decided to retire, when I was banded 5 years ago he was already in his 50's so he is not a young man and he has kids, and family and a complete golf obsession. I know the clinic staff haven't been told why he is leaving or at least nothing they can say since three of them are friends of mine and have been for a while.

I have an appt booked with Yau on Monday and I know I will be asking him about my aftercare since I was banded before TLBC was a blink in anyones eye and Joffe once upon a time was my primary surgeon and in the past I have had serious complications so my follow up care in the future is a huge concern of mine.

I hope his health is great and he just decided that we are too high maintenance for him he runs what is basically two practices that are both full time jobs. He still does general surgery and is an emerg oncall surgeon for Scarborough Grace along with his banding practice. I know banding patients take huge amounts of time (less now that he isn't doing fills anymore) and our follow up goes on forever, at 5 years out I am still getting the occasional fill and de-fill so multiply that by the 2000+ patients they have banded and that is a ton of work for both the surgeons.

But people should keep in mind that their contracts if they are TLBC are not with Joffe or Yau but with TLBC. And as long as TLBC exists they should be ok with fills, de-fills and any possible complications.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
