One year out.... maintaining... but fearful of gaining

Recommended Posts

i catch myself freaking out about gaining 1 pound. i am 5'3" and weigh 130-135.... per the "nornal" weight i an at the high end... but people tell me i am too thin... i try not to make decisions on what others say....i know that I am not too thin... i would like to loose sbout 10 pounds but wonder if my fear of gaining my weight back is unhealthy ... i think if maybe i am closer to the lower end of my ideal weight i will not stress as much over the 3-4 pounds i find myself gaining and loosing from week to week.

I lost a lot of weight several years ago. I am 5' 1" and weighed 140 back then. Some of my relatives said I lost too much weight. I was not even in my BMI range, under 25. I was very fit, and looked healthily. I know how u feel. I would tell those who thought I lost too much weight was that I am not even at a normal weight range according to published standards. So that would pacify them. As far as much u should weigh. If u like what u see in the mirror and feel healthily.. Then convince yourself that is where u need to be. Obsessing over the last 10 pounds u feel need to lose may not be worth it..and may even backfire. It is ultimately up to u where u want to land with your weight goal. Come to a point where u r content.. Otherwise you may have internal struggles to get to a number that causes u mental struggles and u may not see the big pic of how far u have come.

My stated goal is also 135 for my 5'4" frame. Just got my sleeve 12/23/2013. My family has always used the "big boned" excuse to justify morbid obesity, but I know from my high school weight of 108, that I am not big boned. I really would like to get to 125 so that I can have a few pounds of buffer zone for weight fluctuations. No one can tell you at what weight you feel healthy.

Just wanted to chime in since this hits home for me. I'm 5'2" and 116 pounds. My goal was 125, but I was terrified that if I regained a little, I would no longer be at goal any longer. So I kept losing. My body didn't mind losing anymore,' it came off easily. But here I am at 116 and still terrified of even gaining one pound back. I'm not so sure that fear goes away.

TP70, I think it is good to "freak out" about gaining weight. It keeps you on your toes and makes you aware of it so you can react sooner to get it back to where you want it. Lynda (a vet) talks about her bounce range and if she is out of that she goes back to basics to get back into it. It is easier to lose 1 to 2 pounds than 10. You have to be realistic about goals and go with what you are comfortable with and not what others think. If you are happy where you are now, then maintain now and then later try to lose more. You can always lose a little more and reevaluate where you are and your comfort level.

Thank you for posting. I appreciate these insights.

I need to deal with my OCD/psych issues as spending a great deal of time mentally straining once at goal is not living life to the fullest for me. I know if I do not try to address this as I lose I will be in this same boat. How do we fix this?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
