Your favorite PROTEIN BARS?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am going back to work on Thursday, 3 weeks and 2 days after my surgery. I am still in the tiny meal stage (2 oz protein/1 oz fruit or veggie if I can eat it). My question is, what is your favorite Protein bar? I really need something high Protein, low fat, low sugar blah blah blah that I can throw in my desk drawer. I know that when I get back to work it will be just as busy as it was before and I'll end up not eating all day. I'm going to take a couple of shakes with me and some cheese but I know I'll need something else portable.

Suggestions anyone?

Thanks!

Janet

Quest bars - I ordered from Amazon and got the sampler so I can try them all. So far I had one, and it lasted 2 days. Most people recommended them. A lot of others are more sugar and carbs, especially at the grocery store. Very deceiving. Happy New Year!

I have a small insulated bag and pack SF pudding, SF Jello, cottage cheese, small plastic containers of mandarin oranges found in the fruit section, there are just so many ideas for us. I do not eat Peanut Butter, but they have the PB to go small packages. My husband and I were both sleeved and if we go off for the day these are just handy. Now I can have lowfat cheese sticks. The Jello and pudding are off the shelf and not even refrigerated.

Oh Yeah bars are the best!!! Taste just like candy bars and are totally yummy and filling. I am not a fan of Quest bars because they are so bar/cake like. Oh Yeah are much more chunky, textured and real feeling to me because they have whole peanuts, raisins, etc. LOVE THEM.

Have not heard of Oh Yeah Bars but will check them out. I have read and compared so many labels I feel like a label. I even went in GNC and compared their labels.

We are both diabetic so I want the least carbs and sugars.

They aren't the best on carbs and sugar, I am sure, but they have real food components. I turned my father to them and he is diabetic. His levels have not gone up at all due to the bars so he's happy. I know everyone is different, but you can buy them individually so try them!

I've only tried the pure Protein Bars so far. Their filling and around 16-19 total grams carbs.

Their my candy bars. But I really limit my daily carbs so those are for days where I need carbs. I've got PCOS and hypothyroidism. .so I really limit the carbs big time.

Plain fat free greek yogurt is always handy, along with Syntrax Nectar to go packets. I mix the Cappuccino with 8iz Water and 8oz of skim milk or unsweetened slobs milk. Delicious!

Thanks everyone! I am def going to check out the Oh Yeah and the Quest bars...I'll go to Amazon and get some of each. The Pure Protein I know they have at my grocery store so I'll look at them too. I already have some nectar in the pantry, that stuff is GREAT!! That's the shake I mentioned, the ONLY shake as far as I'm concerned. :-)

Nutritionally speaking, the Quest bars are hard to beat. Their high Fiber content gives them very low net carbs. Meaning, yes they are high in carbs but very little of it is sugar.

And as for the taste....15 seconds in the microwave makes them taste so much better. Take them out of the wrapper first. Don't ask me how I know this.

Read those labels! The microwave might make the Quest Bar more perfect for me. Thanks Mc!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
