The Calendar Says It All...

Recommended Posts

I put my calendar for 2014 up on the kitchen wall today and as I always do...I took a look at my calendar from the year ending to revisit the last 12 months and see how the year went. I was also able to follow my weight loss journey as well because I started my preop diet exactly one year ago tomorrow. How very appropriate to start the new year with a chance to be a new me, right?

So...what I was able to see very clearly, was that the weight did not come off in a dramatic fashion. Well...the first 20 or so lbs. came off quickly but that includes the preop diet. After that, I saw because I weighed and kept track every Sunday, what my progress looked like. Most of the time, I lost anywhere from 1/2 lb. to once in a while around 3 lbs. over the course of the week. Most of the time, the loss was less than 2 lbs.

And today...one year after I started the preop diet, those mostly 1-2 lb. losses per week have added up to a total of 103 lbs. so far. Now that's an incredible number I realize, but...and this is a big but....it came off a little at a time. Just goes to prove that it really is about taking it one day at a time, one week at a time and not looking too far forward, but being able to look back and see where you came from and where you are now.

For those of you just starting out, remember this post, put one foot in front of the other, and keep your eyes on the prize. The goals you seek will come....

Happy New Year to all..and much success in 2014!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
