Help! I can't sleep.

Recommended Posts

I had my gastric bypass just over a week ago and I am struggling to sleep for more than. 2 hours at a time before waking up for 2-3 hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

I have the same exact symptoms! The doctors have chalked it up to my sleep meds not being absorbed correctly. I already had a sleep disorder, but this is ridiculous. I'm going to research this.

Several studies have found this to possibly be caused by mineral deficiency...going to call for a check up on Monday.

I didn't sleep well until about a month out from by pass.. My surgeon just says it is pretty normal and it will get better.. He was AGAIN right!

Unfortunately, I'm 8 months out...no improvement, yet, but I'll keep hoping.

I am 12 days post op. I have done pretty good sleeping. On some night in the first week I was uncomfortable for too many hours in bed, so I moved to my recliner. I slept pretty good in the upright, relcined position. I have also taken two Tylonel PM pills at night about an hour before bed, to get sleepy, so I was ready for bed and sleep when I hit the sheets. I am sleeping better and better each night as I continue to heal.

I was allowed to go back on my ambien right after surgery. Before surgery it would take anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours before I would go to sleep. Now I take it and have to go to bed immediately. The minute I lay down I'm gone. Never had this medication work this fast except when I first started taking it years ago.

Thank you. It means so much to me knowing that their is a community of people so willing to help. It is frustrating to feel tired and restless at the same time. I appreciate the advice though. I will trust in the healing process for now. I see my doctor for my first post op appointment in a few days and will discuss it with him too. Thank you!

My Dr suggested Benadryl. I've battled insomnia for awhile and post op it's became worse.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
