Sugar Free vs. Regular

Recommended Posts

So, I had my surgery on 12/16. I'm starting to add in some soft foods. Part of my problem this past week has been with all the sugar free stuff. Sugar Free stuff makes me so queasy and leaves the worst after taste. So, I picked up some regular Jello and regular pudding and since I can only eat several bites, is it really the end of the world? I was planning on seeing what my nutritionist says when I go in, but thought you all would tell me your thoughts too! Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

I wouldn't worry about it one jot. You need a little sustenance of any form in these very early days.

sugar free is also pretty bad for your insides in large quantities and so early on ( and in my humble opinion).

Good question, I was sleeved on the 17 and during my liquid diet I only had regular pudding, but light yogurt. Now after surgery the yogurt is so nasty and I think it is making me sick. I sent my daughter father to go and get me some regular yogurt today and ice pops. I just can't stomach that artificial sugar anymore. Plus I hear it isn't really good for you.

I hate artificial sweetener and I believe Splenda actually triggers hunger for me.

I think everything in moderation is OK, however, you can't let one pudding cup become two pudding cups to making your own pudding and eating the whole bowl.

I allow myself one teaspoon of honey in my coffee every day - it makes me feel normal in a very "unnormal" situation. With that said, I track everything I eat and drink. If I don't, I know I will let things slide - that's been my M.O. my whole adult life. The "Oh a little more won't hurt" syndrome.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
