6 days post op and I'm hungry

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody!

I am in need of some support. I’ll make this short because I my computer failed me when I tried posting before and I don’t feel like typing everything again.

I am six days post op. I’m sticking to my NUT’s diet plan as closely as I can. Each day gets better than the last. I’m struggling to get in the 64 ozs of liquid and 60 g of Protein. Work in progress. My abdominal area is healing very nicely and I’ve not needed any pain medication.

However, I’m hungry. Nothing outside of Protein shakes and greek yogurt satisfies this hunger feeling. It’s definitely not head hunger. The sensation is uncomfortable. I know my little sleeve pouch is still healing and I don’t want to overextend it. But I’m wondering why I’m feeling such persistent hunger when NOBODY I’ve read about on this forum started experiencing hunger this soon out the gate. I’m beginning to get paranoid about whether I’m sleeved or not!

Any advice? Thoughts?

Are you taking a ppi for acid? In the early days most of us get a lot of acid that feels just like hunger.

Humm thanks for pointing this out..I do have those and haven't taken them...thinking I don't need it. I will start taking it :) thanks!

I was hungry about the sand time as u..day 6. It only lasted one day.. I wanted a hot meal..it was an excruciating day k4 me.. Regrets, mourning and feeling overwhelmed as to what I did to my body. But happy it went away. I think my mind was struggling .. Not real hunger. What I did was have shakes more often that day.. But less ounces. I will get Betty. Yes. Like others mentioned.. Acid can cause this also.

Your question is not unique. There have been a lot of post about this and everyone says that this need for food goes away after about 2 weeks in. I agree with laura-ven. Stick to your program and ask the NUT about this feeling/sensation. I haven't had the surgery, but studying up on these things is the best medicine. Good Luck!

I would advise everybody here to not advance yourself... It's best to follow your post op instructions, they are there for a reason.

I agree dont advance to soon. Your body is still healing. Sometimes i also thought i was hungry but what it was i was needing more fluids.

I'm 8 days post op and I am hungry too. I don't think it's real hunger tho. I honestly think it's in my mind. People with eating disorders eat often bc of habit. I think that's my problem. It's in my head. Plus, this is the WORST time of the year to be going through this. I've been to 4 Christmas parties and it's TOUGH!

There have been a couple of times I thought I felt hungry but it's which is odd for me.

Yes, the surgery says "to removed hunger hormone" but it doesn't always work, which I'm sorry to say.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
