Sleeved on the 19th -- feeling bad

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I was sleeved Thursday got home last night. Not too much pain but very uncomfortable and bubbly. I can't really drink anything as my stomach starts to roar and rumble and bubble. No matter how less I sip. I'm so thirsty but feel like I can't do anything about it. Not hungry at all.

I hope things get better because as of now I am having doubts about all of this.

Hang in there, to be honest it's gonna get worse before it gets better. Days 3-6 are not fun….BUT….then it starts to get SOOO much better.

You need to give yourself time to heal and get used to things. You had major surgery. Just keep sipping and do your best to sip your Protein drinks. Isopure is the best Protein Drink, its on the clear liquid part of post op and the more Protein you can get the soon you will feel stronger and you will heal faster.

Can't say it enough, hang in there. It will be so worth it.

I promise, in 3 months time, you won't even remember this part because you will feel so good, look so good and have bounds of energy!

First, Congratulations on your Surgery! I would take something like Gas x. And call your physician. Hope you feel better soon.

What you're going thru is perfectly normal...including the second guessing the surgery.

You're slowly going to be able to increase your intake of Water - I mean slowly. Just keep sipping. It's important to stay hydrated.

As for the 2nd thoughts - I had them until about day 2 or 3. That's when I started feeling better.

Hang in there - things will get better and this bad part will be over before you know it.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Thanks everyone. I just are a sugar free pop cycle and feel a little better. Having a hard time sipping otherwise.

One thing I found early on was plain Water didn't go down well - for some reason it was like drink Water with sand in it. I found Vitamin Water Zero or Propel Zero helped get water in. (I got dehydrated on Day 3 and it wasn't fun.)

To add to what mcbutterpants said, try some warm liquids. Warm, not hot. chicken broth and no sugar added hot cocoa may work.

Also, I found I got better each day. Hang in there. The discomfort will be in the past very soon.

Sorry you are struggling! I had Water trouble too. I mixed diet cranberry juice with water and it was wonderful to me. I'm five weeks out and doing great. You will be there very quickly. Also, try ice chips if necessary. They melt nicely and sometimes feel better than sipping.

Best of luck to you!

Just tried crystal light. That seems to go down better than just plain Water.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
