What to have at home to be successful

Recommended Posts

Hello friends,

I am getting myself ready for surgery hopefully by the end of January or early February.

I am trying to read everything I can get my hands on and prepare myslef.

I have gotten the fitbit and am looking at the Nutribullet for making smoothies.

What are some must have things you have used that has helped you in your success?

Thanks and Merry Christmas!1

A food scale. I got a Biggest Loser one from Walmart and absolutely love it. Also measuring cups are great to have too. Especially the 1/4 cup size. One of those back support wrap around belt things also helped me a lot to feel supported during the recovery. Lots of different Soups because I would only eat was I was in the mood for. A good travel mug to keep your hot liquids hot and your cold ones cold. I also have a small insulated lunch bag I take everywhere in the car with me to fill with drinks and Snacks. Wow I had a lot of stuff! Lol! Best of luck!

Insulated lunch bag for me too. It goes everywhere with me. I don't leave my meals and Snacks to chance. And appetizer plates, appetizer forks and spoons. I use them to help keep my bites small. It's also hard to eat fast with a tiny utensil. Lots of small covered containers for storing and heating perfect portions of foods that you like. I bought a small ceramic bowl with a cover that has a steam vent - perfect for microwaving meals without drying them out when I'm at work (dried out foods are the source of all my misery). Water bottles. I keep them at work, in my car, and at home. A pill container or other small container for your purse to keep your Calcium in. It's the only supplement I keep forgetting because it can't be taken w/multivitamins, which I take mornings and evenings. I would think of the calcium during the day but I wouldn't have any w/me. Now I carry calcium with me so I can take it when I think of it.

If you have pills to take and your doctor makes you crush them a pill splitter/crusher is so worth it. I have found that Miralax is a must for me. Good luck in your journey!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
