I'm not quite 30 days out and am stuck

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 11/22/13. I have been truly trying and am in the "mushy" stage. I don't feel like I am making any progress though. My diet and lifestyle both have changed dramatically. Any words of encouragement. Should I go back on the liquids only for a while?

Hi, I was banded the same day. When you say progress do you mean weightloss? If that's the case give yourself a break your 3 weeks post and still healing. My surgeon said (and everyone is different in what stage they progress) that he doesn't care if I lose before my first fill on January 10th. He said to focus on stage he put me at and keep healing. Don't worry it will get better the mushies won't be forever. And you don't want to make calories from liquids a habit.

You had major surgery and your diet is drastically different than you are used to!!!!

You are only 3 weeks out from surgery...what are your expectations at this point?????

You are still in the healing phase and that should be your primary focus.

My doc also advised me that the 1st six weeks is about healing properly and safely and NOTHING ELSE. (I know all docs are different).

WLS surgery is not a magic wand with a magic cure for something that has plagued us for, usually, most of our lives...this will be a journey not a quick 'road trip'.

I'm only 3 mos out of surgery and would say, in only my opinion, that you need to focus on healing, relax and GIVE YOURSELF AND YOUR BODY SOME TIME. Time to adjust to a whole new way of life.

Wishing you the best!

I agree. Try to heal. I am 10 days post op. Your body had to heal itself. I had to go back to my doctor and ask him to give me more time off. Originally, I wanted to go back to work. However, when I got there, everyone in my staff knew I was not ready. I am going to take the time to get myself on track.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
