Think before you eat... Something we all know about but do we really do it?

Recommended Posts

As a surgical Icu nurse I have personally cared for several patients who ruptured their staple line due to non compliance with the post op diet. The most memorable ate 1/2 a chicken, the other a Big Mac. Both died of overwhelming infection after a long terrible fight. I've said it before but there is more at risk than not losing weight. It's one thing to cheat yourself with high calorie foods that meet the consistency guidelines, it's another to make a crazy choice. Strict compliance until the sleeve is totally healed isn't optional, doing otherwise is playing Russian roulette with your life.

Thank you for posting this. It's a sobering reminder that it followings pre- and post-op directions is not optional. Your relating your personal experience really brings this to life.

I had surgery in Mexico. Two days later, they drive you back to Texas. The driver said there were so many times that 2 days after surgery, people would want to stop and get a burger or stop at the convenience store in the way back and buy chips and chocolate. Very scary.

I want you to know that I meant absolutely no disrespect whatsoever for your post. I know that it's possible, I've just never seen an actual news report about something like that happening and I'm a skeptic by nature. Being mindful about what we eat really is ESSENTIAL to our health and well being - and I think that was the whole point you were trying to make. I'm sorry if I hurt or offended you in any way - it wasn't my intention to do so!

Found this. It's from the Daily Mail newspaper (not very reputable) but the coroners verdict was lodged in Cornwall, UK.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2159155/Obese-woman-suffocates-food-gastric-bypass-surgery-meant-couldn-t-fit-stomach.html

Revs, that's a pretty dodgy article. I guess the Mail is like our National Inquirer.

Oh, NMJG, it's a shocking newspaper...

All that ever appears is The Kardashians, Beiber <blesses herself after naming the one who should not be named>, Z-List celebrities, sensationalist tripe about the 'foreigners invading britain and living off benefits' and a daily dose of Princess Diana, who and without fail, makes an appearance at least 20 times a week... despite being dead since '07...

Critical analysis is not really their thang.. if you get my meaning :D

While I fully respect your opinion this is an actual event that occurred.

Do you have link?

Whether or not it happened it's still a good message. Being a stay at home mom with 24/7 fridge access I often find myself wandering into the kitchen only because I'm bored or the kids want a snack. I'm 5 months out and still battling these issues.

Mindfulness in all things, including and maybe especially eating, is always a good idea. Thanks for the reminder!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
