I'm 10 1/2 weeks post op and have been very blessed in that I can eat almost anything with no problem. My issue is that I really don't eat dairy (no reason, just don't like eggs, cheese, cottage cheese or yogurt). I do drink milk, but I know we are supposed to try to get our Protein from real food instead of shakes. I'm so sick of eating meat three meals a day! Don't really feel like eating it in the morning, and can only come up with so many ideas on what to cook. If I'm sick of eating this way after a few weeks, I'm scared of how I'll adapt to this new eating plan for life. I sure would appreciate any help any of you can offer. Mahalo!

meat is not your only Protein option. Beans and legumes are options also. I love turkey or chicken chili. There are so many different variations on how to make it that I haven't got bored yet. Also I like to mix refried Beans in with Soups, casseroles, veggies, and ground meats. I even use refried beans as a dip with legume crackers (another higher Protein option). :-)

'The World According to Eggface' is a great website. Other places to find recipes and ideas are 'Atkins', 'South Beach', any low carb site, and bodybuilding sites and books. My husband is a body-builder. I can eat anything I make for him, just less of it. :-)

I happen to love eggs and cottage cheese so I don't have a problem getting my Protein in. However, after surgery I lost my taste for meat !!! Its so strange but I'm not complaining I am just going with the flow. I do drink shakes when I know I am not getting my Protein and only use the shakes as a supplement. My taste buds really changed after surgery. Try different recipes there is so much out there to get your protein in.

You can also try sea food, snow crabs (my favorite) shrimp, salmon, tilapia, when I have meats I make sure I make it to it's falling from the bone soft so my pouch can tolerate it...our taste buds do change after awhile it will get better....before surgery I loved milk, after I'm lactose intolerant...certain things I can have certain things I can't.

Good luck,

The world according to eggface, bariatric foodie have recipes as well

I am 8 months post op and I am so tired of meat. I have gotten into the habit again of relying on Protein shakes to get enough Protein in. I do eat eggs but only 3 times a week, I hate pork, will not eat it nor will I eat lamb or veal but I was that way before surgery. I will eat cottage cheese (low fat), cheese and yogurt. I guess this is my new life and I need to get used to it. UGG,

How many veggies are you getting in each day? 1/2cup, 1 cup and how many fruits?

I have 1/2 to 1 cup of fruit at Breakfast and that is all. Does that sound too low to anyone?

thanks for the feedback.

Cheryl

Fruit only for breakfast won't work. Protein protein protein. Cheesestick and yogurt is an option. Nuts also.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
