Any Sleevers Out There With Pcos?

Recommended Posts

Hi there everyone!

I am a 31 year old married mother of two miracle boys. I have finished all my pre-op testing and I am currently waiting for a surgery date for my sleeve. I have PCOS which is a hormone related endocrine disorder that places women at high risk for diabetes, infertility, heart disease and obesity. It also makes it very difficult to lose weight. I am wondering if there are any PCOS Sleevers out there who can share how the surgery has affected their PCOS symptoms, if at all. Thank you all for any information and all your inspiring stories!

Hi,

I have PCOS and was sleeved in August. It hasn't really made a difference in my symptoms yet, but I think it probably will when I am farther out. I feel like I am losing more slowly than some others and I don't know if it is due to PCOS or not. I also have hypothyroidism, so that could be contributing as well. I was worried before surgery that I wouldn't lose because of the PCOS and the hypothyroidism, but I am.

You may find this helpful.

If you search either PCOS or the full Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in the Search field, after selecting 'Forums', there are a lot of hits.

I'm a sleeved PCOS-er.. it's a laugh a minute!

There's a lot of good advice and discussion out there. If you have any questions, just hollar :)

I have PCOS, Hypothyroid, Pernicious Anemia and am pre-diabetic. I had infertility and also have miracle children. I had gestational diabestes with my last pregnancy (twins). I was sleeved on October 14, 2013 and have been losing weight pretty steadily. My A1c is down 2 points since surgery and my throid functions are better but not enough to change my synthroid dosage from 125mg. I still get acne and that hasn't changed. I still have the heavy periods also. I'm not sure if the fertility has improved but don't plan on finding out. All in all, I'd say that I haven't really seen many changes in my PCOS since being sleeved.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
