I'm getting sleeved on December 17th. My father (and family) have insisted that he comes to stay with me for a week to help care for me (which rocks!).

He's basically going to be hunkered down with me in my small NYC apartment for a week. I've found good seats to his FAVORITE play on Broadway.

Question is: Am I going to feel good enough to go see a play with him on day 8 post-op or should I send him by himself? (I'd prefer to go with him, but I don't want to feel like crap.)

So!

1) Should I go?

2) What did you feel like at 8 days post-op?

This is all assuming that I'm healthy with no complications and recovering "normally."

Right days post op I would totally have gone for the play. Have that be one of your only big activities for the day but you should be fine for a few hours. We drove an hour each way and then sat through a 2 hour lunch with a local support group about 7 days after surgery. We needed to rest after that, but it was a nice interlude.

Today is 12 days post-op for me, and my recovery has been great so far - much better than I anticipated. 8 days post-op I shopped in a large grocery store for about 45 minutes. I was definitely worn out but better after resting. I'd say I would have been fine going to the theatre because it's a seated activity. By day 8 I was also walking 2 1/4 miles per day on a treadmill (in 15 minute increments). My doctor said that my recovery has been better than average, though. Given that you're in NYC, I'd consider how much walking would be required to get there. I think it's really your call - I'd hate for you to buy a ticket and then not feel like going. Based on only my personal experience, I could have gone. Best of luck to you!!

My post op was rough. The post op diet didn't agree with me and I developed an infection in my incision- so on day 8 things were not going so well. I didn't start feeling good until about 4 weeks out. It seems like my experience was certainly not the norm so you should probably be fine. Good luck and don't put too much pressure on yourself for committments for the weeks following surgey. You need to fucus on your recovery.

I went shopping with my sister 3 days post op. I sat and watched her a lot, but I was okay. She was here to "take care of me" after surgery, but yet I still felt like I had to entertain her. I drove her to airport at day 5. Then went home and back to bed for about a week.

Seriously, though, I had no complications from the surgery, no vomiting, no nausea, no pain. I was just really tired which lasted until I got to soft foods.

That said, I'm not sure I could have handled mass transit -- especially the trains in NYC. Too many people moving too fast, too much jostling, too many stairs. Suggest you taxi to and from the theater. Have fun!

You know as I read others' very good advice, I think I should change my recommendation. Many have pointed out the difficulties of mass transit, and of needing to rest and recover and I think they are right. With my lunch, I could have just decided not to go. If you have a ticket to a show, that's a lot harder to do. I suggest you send your dad on his own and use the time to rest instead.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
