I'm hoping to schedule my surgery around December 17th or 18th. My husband's family does not know that I am having wls and want to have Christmas at our house. Do you think that will be too much for me to handle that soon after surgery? I'm kind of thinking it will be. I also think I will still be on a liquid diet. Thoughts?

If you are trying to hide the fact you just had major surgery and on top of that can't eat "normal"?

Yes I'd say too much too soon..

I will probably let them know about my surgery but I just wanted to know if physically I would feel up to it.

Ok! I didn't tell my inlaws until two days after because I needed peace before hand.. I had my surgery last year a week before thanksgiving.. Everybody handles it differently but there was no way I could of cooked and entertained! In fact my husband and kids went to my inlaws that year and I stayed behind and rested. My opinion? If you have the support of them and your husband to take over and do the work if need be and also "permission" to leave the party time to time to rest? If you want them there you should be fine, barring no complications..

You never know what to expect from recovery so play it safe and don't even plan on extra duties post op

It would have been way too much for me, but everyone is different.

Only you know what you can handle and unfortunately it is hard to foresee the future. I am a "just do it" person (for me personally) and I push myself regardless of how I will feel later. My daughters both had cheer competitions two days after my being released from the hospital. Although I attend EVERY event they have to support them and am usually the mom that brings whatever is needed, uses my car as a billboard of support and is there from the drop off time till the last award (sometimes this is 12 plus hours), I had to say no. I needed to put myself first. I do not do this very easily as I have never been able to, with four kids and a husband who can?

I agree with the others, if you have a supportive team that will understand you will not be the one waiting on everyone else and can rest when needed, go for it, if not; don't do it!

I could have done it but there would have been no food on the table (still on liquids so couldn't taste), the house would not have been clean (couldn't lift things or vacuum), I would have been that lump on the couch (no energy for about two weeks) and I would have wished I hadn't. That's just me, though.

I had surgery on the 22nd. I'm doing well, but certainly do not feel like cooking or entertaining! I pretty much focus on Protein, Water, walk....everything else will be there if I get to it. Time to take care of me!

I probably could have helped put on a Christmas dinner one week after surgery. I couldn't have done it alone or even the majority of the preparations...

The only thing I could manage to do at 1 week post op was go to the fridge, get my fluids and go back to the couch lol Ok, and managed a few small walks a day. I didn't even feel like attending my nieces birthday party.

Im one week out today & cooked Thanksgiving dinner. I started yesterday on some things that could be done. I try not to bend over too much (getting pots & pans out of cabinets), so I definitely ask for help. But I feel good!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
